Feeling a bit Meh.. about work? It might be Professional Integrity Scoliosis (term coined with my client during one of our sessions)
It happens when professional abilities and expertise are used out of alignment with internal values, and the environment cannot be changed. Seemingly due to external circumstances (mortgage, school fees, possible recession) but ultimately the reason is a fear of change and lack of belief in own agency to manage it. And/or no idea what to do instead. Because external change is believed to be impossible, internal integrity adjustments are being made, with time compromising the ethical posture (psychological equivalent of a misalignment of vertebrae in your spine know as scoliosis).
Prevalent age – 40 plus.
Symptoms: despondence, boredom, irritability, low performance, anxiety, self-sabotaging behaviours, impostor syndrome.
Goal – correction of ‘psychological or mental’ posture
Long term treatment – change of career path
Immediate remedy – dreaming about possible future to awaken creativity and inspiration*
*disclaimer: dreams are not literal but metaphors (eg. New York is not a place but representation of belonging); we are also dreaming of WHAT (eg. ability to connect with people who share my passion) not HOW. Please tell your anxiety not to worry about ‘how do I get there with pandemic and no visa’.
