When the Dog Bites … Coping, with Mindfulness
It sounds like a metaphor, but this is actually what happened to me not so long ago.
I was rushing to the bus, going to my first in life networking meeting – thinking what it may be like, and so on. On my way I encountered my neighbour with his dog. My dog and his dog don’t get on, so we never get close. This time I had a chance to say hello to him and the dog – so I stopped and said hello to both. At which point the dog – big fluffy lion, jumped on my arm and bit me. The owner was as shocked as I was and dragged the fluff away without words exchanged. I was left with a painful arm, a hole in my beloved leather jacket (you know the kind that is irreplaceable after 20 years of wear and tear – now literally), and a flurry of emotions running through me. Shall I go back home, forget the meeting, throw myself on the sofa and drown in righteous anger about how unfair life is – it was my beloved jacket after all?
